Bahia Vik Retreat
Bahia Vik is a beachfront retreat in the town of Jose Ignacio, on Uruguay’s eastern shore. The project embraces the landscape of Playa Mansa; the unique bungalows are tucked in among the dunes, and the main house addresses the sea.
The flow between indoor and outdoor spaces is seamless here: large windows, sea-view terraces, and reflecting pools.
Bahia Vik’s concierge service is staffed 24 hours a day to assist guests with restaurant suggestions, tours and any other requests. The hotel has complimentary WiFi and internet throughout the main building and bungalows.
Bahia Vik is just a 45-50 minute drive from Punta del Este’s international airport, and 15 minutes by car from sister property, Estancia Vik.
Bahia Vik Location
Bahia Vik is sitting on 10 acres of sand dunes, located half a mile on the south peninsula of Jose Ignacio, a tiny fishing village with an estimated population of 200, and is fast becoming one of Latin America’s hottest beach destinations. Like Punta del Este, one side of this peninsula has gentle (mansa) waves, while the other (brava) is perfect for surfing.
Walking from one side of town to the other takes about five minutes, including time to pat a cart horse and admire the hand-painted street signs. On the eastern side of the peninsula, the town’s faro (lighthouse) has been guiding ships since 1877.
After sleeping in, guests in Jose Ignacio can enjoy horseback riding, sailing, and fishing with the locals. Surfing and kite surfing lessons are also available. From July to October, franca whales migrate along the coast here. Toes-in-the-sand restaurants serve grilled fish, rustic pizzas, and juicy casados. Sunsets and stargazing round out most days.
Bahia Vik Accommodations
As with its sister properties, art is more immersive than decorative at Bahia Vik. Each of the 10 main-house suites and 11 villas features installations by leading Uruguayan and international artists, paired with original furnishings and fixtures.
Each suite has air conditioning, security box (large enough for a laptop), mini-bar, hairdryer, bathrobes, and slippers. Wi-Fi is available throughout each retreat.
The electric voltage in Uruguay is 220v, should you need an adaptor, guests can inquire at the front desk. There are no televisions in rooms, but there is a game room with TVs and Xbox.

La Susana, Vik Retreats’ first restaurant and beach club, graces the beachfront steps away from Bahia Vik. Other restaurants include Zodiaco at Bahia Vik, Cielomar at Playa Vik and El Asador at Estancia Vik.
A complimentary breakfast is served every day from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. It includes fresh squeezed orange juice, whole-grain cereal, pastries, muffins, and croissants, to name a few.
Every day the hotel provides new selections for snacks, lunch, appetizers and dinner, prepared by an in-house chef.
The hotel also provides a specialized laundry service for guests. Each room includes a laundry bag in the closet and a form where they can detail their specific needs.
Bahia Vik also has a babysitting service that can be arranged through the front desk but needs to be scheduled 24 hours in advance.
