Adventure
Refugio Amazonas occupies a secluded 200-hectare rainforest reserve in the buffer of Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve, nestled beside a Brazil-nut forest and tributaries of the Tambopata River. Its design leans into rustic eco-aesthetics: thatched roofs of palm fronds, walls of cane and clay, hardwood floors, raised boardwalks, and rooms with one side open to the forest canopy—ventilated, minimal, yet intimately linked to its setting. Refugio Amazonas is owned and operated by Rainforest Expeditions, which partners with local communities (including Brazil-nut harvesters) to manage the land sustainably, conserve biodiversity, and weave citizen science into its identity.
