El Albergue is a hidden gem, tucked between an organic farm and the bustling Ollantaytambo’s train station. Most guests enter the hotel through the station’s cafe, where a back door leads to a garden space enclosed by terraced walls, a fountain, and two-story guest houses.
Owned and managed by generations of the Randall family, El Albergue has the feel of a cozy country house. Rabbits nibble at the grass, while hummingbirds and butterflies pollinate fuchsia, passionflower, peach, and avocado. That atmosphere is surprising, given the hotel’s proximity to the Sacred Valley’s main train stop on the Machu Picchu railway line.

The hotel is located at the northern end of the Sacred Valley in Ollantaytambo–roughly 90 minutes by road from Cusco and 1 hour 45 minutes by rail from Machu Picchu. Ollantaytambo’s massive hillside temple complex is a short walk away. The hotel can also serve as a base for day trips to the ancient Inca sites of Pisac, Chinchero, Moray, and the Maras salt terraces.
