Inhotim Family Travel Album

Set in the rolling sierra of Brazil’s Minas Gerais state about an hour southwest of Belo Horizonte, Inhotim is a 5,000-acre botanical garden and art collection. More than two dozen pavilions dot the palm and flower filled gardens. The indoor and outdoor collection includes works by Paula Zasnicoff Cardoso, Yayoi Kusama, Anish Kapoor, Matthew Barney, Adriana Varejao, and Dan Graham. This is Brazil’s applaudable addition to the likes of Naoshima and Middelheim.

This is one of our favorite family day trips in Brazil. The art installations and architecture are immersive and diverse–each pavilion holds wonders and surprises. Golf carts are available to help tired little legs. The garden restaurant is just right. Bring a swimsuit; you never know what you might find.

Inhotim is a few minutes north of the town of Brumadinho. Belo Horizonte is the closest large city (60 miles to the northeast). Ouro Preto is two twisty hours (70 miles) to the southeast. LANDED arranges charter helicopter flights from either location. Charter flights can also be arranged from Ibitipoca.
