Montemar: Private Villas in the Highlands of Santa Cruz
Montemar is a private estate and reserve located in the cool highlands of Santa Cruz Island, in Ecuador’s Galapagos Archipelago. The property is set on 43 acres of native forest and pasture, approximately one hour by road and ferry from Baltra Airport (GPS) and 20 minutes from Puerto Ayora. This stunning location offers convenient access to the island’s ports, tortoise reserves, and volcanic landscapes.
Owned and operated by naturalist guides Reyna and Roberto, Montemar was created to protect native species—especially the Galapagos Giant Tortoise. The estate supports ongoing conservation research and operates with a strong commitment to sustainability, generating its own power and harvesting rainwater.
Montemar includes two private villas:
Villa Tortuga, with four bedrooms and generous indoor-outdoor living space, accommodates up to eight guests.
Villa Lechuza, a two-bedroom retreat, is ideal for couples or smaller families.
Each villa can be reserved independently or together for exclusive-use stays. Surrounded by forest and wildlife, Montemar offers comfort, privacy, and connection to place—paired naturally with exploration of the Galapagos Islands.
