Awasi Atacama
Located in the ancient oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama, Awasi Atacama is an intimate Relais & Chateaux lodge with 12 adobe suites. This is one of our favorite hotels in Chile.
Each guest room is assigned a private guide and four-wheel drive vehicle; guests can explore the region as they choose, and at their own pace.
Lodge amenities include a swimming pool, open air restaurant, bar, and lounge and a menu of privately guided excursions. However, riding is not offered at Awasi Atacama because horses are not native to the Atacama and they have an adverse effect on the landscape.
Some services can be arranged for an additional cost: massages, ballooning and laundry. Premium beverages carry an additional charge.

Awasi Atacama Location
Located in northern Chile, Awasi Atacama is hidden in the Atacama Desert, one of driest places on earth. The population is full of descendants from the first inhabitants of the region, Atacamenos and European colonists, with a Chilean and Quechua influence.
This intimate hotel located in the town of San Pedro is surrounded by a variety of landscapes, everything from deserts to salt flats to volcanoes.
Just 13 miles west of San Pedro is the The Valle de la Luna in the nearby Los Flamencos National Reserve. This area is home to striking rock formations with a variety of color and texture, similar to the surface of the moon.
Awasi Atacama Accommodations
This small hotel is secluded in a striking setting and has been designed to seamlessly blend into the local culture and environment of San Pedro.
Inspired by pre-Inca ruins, Awasi Atacama’s adobe buildings are constructed in a way that attaches guests to the culture and landscape of the Atacama Desert.
Hidden behind an ancient adobe wall, the 12 round adobe suites are meant to afford visitors the utmost privacy and relaxation. Guests can enjoy private patios, tall trees providing natural shade and open-air communal areas to gather in.
Each suite is fitted with a patio, solarium, outdoor and indoor showers, large living areas, a desk, armchair and walk in wardrobe.
Every room also has air conditioning, bathrobes, slippers, security box, and Wi-Fi. There are no TVs.
Round Suites
- Each of the 2 Round Rooms are 480 square feet and accommodate 2 guests with either a king, queen, or 2 twin beds
- The rooms are outfitted with a private patio, outdoor shower, and bathroom with a shower
- The 10 Superior Round Suites are 750 square feet and can accommodate 2 guests with a king or 2 twins beds
- These too have a private patio, outdoor shower, bathtub and separate shower
Awasi Atacama Dining
A sensory culinary experience is headed by Chef Juan Pablo Mardones who cooks with the best local ingredients.
Each guest can customize their meal based on personal preferences, but the aim of Awasi Atacama is to bring a taste of the desert to the plates of their guests. A highlight is the open-air restaurant which serves unique Andean cuisine.
An open bar of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is also available with a selection of some of the finest Chilean wines.
Private Excursions
A 4×4 vehicle and a private guide design the excursions that best suit guests’ preferences and interests. Guests may choose between full-day excursions with lunch included (from 4 to 6 hrs.) or two half-day excursions (between 2 and 5 hrs.) returning to have lunch at Awasi between both excursions.
At the moment of the reservation, a personal reservations assistant will be assigned to guests in order to coordinate a trip to Atacama and organize personal preferences and requirements. Among the many attractions are geysers, valleys, canyons, petroglyphs, flamingos, and giant cacti.
